1、talking about the weather 谈论天气
beautiful day, isn't it?
很好的天气，不是吗？
can you believe all of this rain we've been having?
你能相信这几天一直在下雨吗？
it looks like it's going to snow.
好像要下雪了。
it sure would be nice to be in hawaii right about now.
现在夏威夷天气肯定很好。
i hear they're calling for thunderstorms all weekend.
我听说整个周末都是雷雨天气。
we couldn't ask for a nicer day, could we?
我们不可以奢求好天气，是吗？
how about this weather?
今天天气怎样？
did you order this sunshine?
是你带来的阳光吧？（也可以理解为是你带来的好天气吧！ ps. 这人真会搭讪）
2、talking about current events 谈论当下发生的事
did you catch the news today?
你看了今天的新闻了吗？
did you hear about that fire on fourth st?
你听说第四大街发生的火灾了吗？
what do you think about this transit strike?
你对这次公交罢工有什么看法？
i read in the paper today that the sears mall is closing.
我今天看报纸说希尔斯购物商场倒闭了。
i heard on the radio today that they are finally going to start building the new bridge.
我在广播上听到说他们终于决定开始建新的大桥了。
how about those reds? do you think they're going to win tonight?

3、at the office 在办公室
looking forward to the weekend?

have you worked here long?

i can't believe how busy/quiet we are today, can you?

4、at a social event 在社交场合

6、waiting somewhere 在某个地方等待某事
i didn't think it would be so busy today.
我不觉得今天会很忙。
you look like you've got your hands full (with children or goods).
看起来你没有多余的手了（都牵着孩子或拿东西了）。
the bus must be running late today.
今天巴士晚点了。
it looks like we are going to be here a while, huh?
看起来我们要在这呆一会了。
i'll have to remember not to come here on mondays.
我得记住周一不要来这里。
how long have you been waiting?
